Welcome To Higher Ed Med. Health Care For Students
College is an exciting new chapter, but when students get sick or injured, the experience can quickly become overwhelming—for them and for their families. Higher Ed Med was created to give parents real peace of mind and to give students a direct line to the care they deserve. Through a concierge-style membership model, we provide a trusted, high-quality healthcare alternative designed specifically for today’s college experience.
Founded by Dr. Lee Chisolm, a long-time Athens family physician and parent of two UGA students, Higher Ed Med grew out of firsthand experience. After raising his family here and caring for Athens families since 2004, Dr. Chisolm witnessed how difficult it can be for students to navigate campus clinics, urgent care centers, and emergency rooms—often after days of feeling unwell or facing unexpected, unnecessary medical bills. He saw the gap between what students need and what the current system can reasonably provide.
Dear Parents,
I have raised my family and practiced medicine in Athens since 2004. Both of my boys have recently graduated from UGA. Over the last few years as my children and their peers have gotten to be college age, I have realized just how confusing it can be for students to navigate their way through the healthcare maze.
I often get phone calls from anxious parents who just do not know where to turn. Unfortunately, it is often after the student has spent days sick in a dorm room or ended up in the Emergency Room or at Urgent Care with an otherwise avoidable outrageous bill.
Watching my own children in college, it became even more apparent of the gap between the health treatment that they need and the limited care that can be provided through the current system. It was difficult for both of them to navigate both the University health system and emergency care.
These frustrations led to the founding of Higher Ed Med – a superior and trusted alternative for college students in Athens. I hope to earn the trust of you as a fellow parent in taking care of your children, just as I would take care of my own.
College students, especially those away from home for the first time, often face challenges when it comes to managing their health.
Higher Ed Med was created specifically to support the unique healthcare needs of college students and their families. Using a personalized, membership-based care model, Higher Ed Med delivers high-quality, accessible medical care without the typical limitations of traditional medical practices.
Members pay a simple, flat fee that includes a wide range of services—including our annual and ongoing unlimited diagnostic routine exams supported by communication connectivity that allows us to quickly schedule exams, answer health questions, and address health concerns.
Higher Ed Med was founded by Dr. Lee Chisolm, an established family physician who has been in Athens, Georgia since 2004. He has children who attend the University of Georgia, and the company was born from his passion for improving healthcare and his personal experiences caring for UGA students. Dr. Chisolm saw an opportunity to improve delivery of healthcare to those students navigating health issues on their own for the first time.

My junior UGA student has used Higher Ed Med since the beginning of her Freshman year. Dr Chisolm is the best and is able to talk to her, do a telehealth call, or see her any time that she has a medical issue! He has been great

I think the most valuable part of this service is being able to be in contact with an actual doctor that I have a relationship with when something goes wrong. I have been sick twice during the course of the school year and Five Stars from this UGA student!!! first time I wasn’t yet using this service was a nightmare. When I was on this service it was easy to get the help, I needed.”

I think Athens Georgia is very lucky to have a doctor like Lee Chisolm. Lee is one of the finest people I know and has a bedside manner. Unlike a lot of doctors, all he cares about is trying to help his patients. As a parent, I can’t think of anybody that I would

Higher Ed Med has truly been a game changer for our family and has given us incredible peace of mind. Even as in-town parents, Higher Ed Med has by far surpassed our expectations. Anytime—day or night—when our son wasn’t feeling well or needed medical attention, he used the portal to reach out, and without fail, Dr. Chisolm or someone from his staff responded within an hour. Every time, our son was seen the very same day. The level of care, responsiveness, and support has been exceptional. We are so grateful for Higher Ed Med and highly recommend their services.

Our sons are grateful for Dr. Chisholm and Higher Ed Med! When they have been dealing with illnesses far away from home, talking to and seeing Dr. Chisholm quickly has been such a relief. As parents, knowing that they are receiving healthcare at the most personal level when living very busy lives is extremely reassuring and comforting.
